Snow White

Post  Snarfles on Thu Dec 18, 2008 7:29 pm

So the PV for Snow White has been released. What are your thoughts on it?

I personally loved the song, but I was highly disappointed with the PV. I thought there was TOO much Asagi, and not enough of the other members. Like, Seriously, they all looked kind of upset that they didn't get enough screen time.

Now, I love Asagi, but seriously, three minutes of JUST him sort of annoys me. If he wants to do solo things, then that's fine, but I don't appreciate the lack of D.

The song I thought was amazing, though.

Editing my post: This is a post to say how YOU feel about it. You don't have to follow someone else. Your opinion is your own. I don't want to start fights here. You can agree with someone, you can disagree. But I don't want any arguments. Because those are no fun!

Whoa, Asagi overload. x___x

Don't get me wrong, I think the video is pretty and I like the song just fine but where are the other members of the band?! Like some people I've talked to have said, it seems more like an Asagi solo song than a D song.

Agreed, this REALLY bothered me. And it's most likely one of the reasons I couldn't bring myself to enjoy the PV.

And I seem to be one of the unpopular ones that wasn't fond of the song. I just feel like the band is capable of composing much more impressive ballads, and as far as they're concerned, the song seemed really mediocre. It was something you'd expect from a ballad, which I was really put out about, because D always puts a spin on the ordinary and makes it their own. This song was what it was, but it wasn't D for me, sorry.

I'm just hoping the rest of the album will be better.

We already have the pv O:
well, in the first moments of it I got like "D8 ugh not another soapy ballad"
but when it reached the chorus my face got all smiley 8D I find it really beautiful as a song, even though I'm not the ballad type.
The pv....no XD The Asagi frontal filming is rather funny, idk his facial expressions while singing are funny XD And it has no flow in it, no action, no story, it's something big and blue with lots of asagi and a little of the other members.

I loved the PV and believe this is the greatest slow song composed by Asagi.

I look on youtube and witness to see a variety of hate messages towards the PV, which saddens me because If you think about it, this IS Asagi's story and if the other members were included it would contrast the very purpose of his message. Take a deeper look into his portrayal of each character he resembles. The other members could not capture the essence of Asagi's darkness or characters for this is a feeling of his and his alone. Every band has a "Only Vocalist" PV, and I for one think this PV could not be displayed in any better way.

I find it beyond beautiful how Asagi was introduced to us as a Vampire at first in D, evolved from a dark creature to the light and heart of an angel in Birth, but even in that form he is still shrouded within his own shadows, therefore in Snow White, he took the form of Royalty. He soon perished as even a queen (or whatever he is ) and even looked different to the world but to himself he resembled a gray wolf and he sees himself unchanged, which results in him retiring his crown to find another form that he can accept himself in.

I just say take a look past the surface and view true beauty ones message holds.

My two cents....on the whole concept :/

Your two cents are just as good as anyone else's. And we are not here to pick fights. Your opinion is your own, and you can stand by it. And I will not disagree with your opinion, because it is yours. Mine is mine, and yours is yours. They're all valid reasons, and everyone has their own right to say what they would like.

*stalk* I've been quoting you a lot lately, haha.

But I agree. I was initially surprised that the PV was already out about a month before the release of the single, but then I remembered that it was supposed to be released this month. I think D is rushing into releasing and doing far too many things at once, and I'm getting a little worried. How else can the poorer quality of the video be explained? There are a few things I enjoy about it - the story and Asagi's character(s), for example, but there are way too many obvious flaws that are impossible to ignore or write off, like bad shooting and very little screen time for the rest of the band, as was already mentioned. They're so much more capable than this. No

But the song itself is gorgeous. It's over the top, twinkling, sparkly, and unexpectedly reminiscent of Lareine. It's as if some completely unrelated band snagged Asagi one day and cracked a whip all like, "SING FOR US AND SING WELL, DAMMIT." It may be average, mainstreamy, poppy, what have you, but I'm listening to it on repeat right now and focusing on a different characteristic every time it plays. It's fun following the contours of Asagi's singing and the running piano, as well as the orchestral harmonies and well-placed (though predictable) drum lines. And the guitar solo near the end is absolute love. ^-^ Ruiza kind of saved the song by infusing some classic D-ness into it. ._.; Edit: But the substantial lack of EVERYONE ELSE is really, really getting to me. Seriously... @__@

I was also thinking about this earlier today, but they're probably getting a lot of money for having all these songs featured in video games and movies. But it doesn't equate - why such a sub-par PV for this single, then? If it really is due to the lack of time, then there's nothing wrong with waiting a little longer to release stuff. Give us and our wallets a little bit of time to recover, haha. But if the band has a bunch of ideas and are impatient to barrel ahead, then more power to them. It's just... from this fan's point of view, I prefer quality over quantity.

I just saw the PV today, and I must say that I share a lot of the same opinions as a lot of you: about there being too much ASAGI (what is up with that??), the somewhat mediocre vocals, and the very un-D'ness. I don't like this ballad take. Its too soft. The video was overly pretty, in an almost Disney-like way. Its cruel to say... but I miss gritty/dark D. But that's just me. I would rather there be a PV for the single "What is going on with human" (on GOTH) which sounds more impressive.

So I was a little bit ...disappointed, I must say. But I musn't slam it just yet. It is often the case that some D songs just do not work for you, and it takes a few times going over it for you to get used to it. For me it was like that with Schwarschild, and Birth especially. D often experiments with different musical styles, and I think this makes them very respectable musicians to not be so typecast. But its often a shock to the system to be used to a particular sound of D and then be confronted with something so very different. On hearing it I was having so much trouble believing that it was actually D.

~ Catharsis- your analysis is really interesting. It makes some sense to me. ASAGI's lyrics do always seem to be telling a story, and not always in sequence, i.e. Schwarschild relates to songs I never lose by Syndrome and Vampire Missa, and more... (correct me if I'm wrong, this is on the top of my head).

I think that Snow White could have been better with more time. I agree with everyone here who says that D has possibly been hurried along too much with a lot going on. But I respect those who think that Snow White is fine as it is. We all have different opinions and tastes.

Chatarsis: I absolutley love how you put it *___*
Asagi is somewhat like the main character of the band, it's actually the same with almost every band, because the vocalist writes the lyrics, and therefore the story of the band is created by the vocalist i.e he becomes the "main character".
And D is a band that is very fond of creating elaborate stories in their music. And that is Asagis story.

Even so I do agree, this wasn't a very good PV, but the song was lovely, though it sounded more Disney than D. But to be honest I like these kinds of ballads better, they really get to me... because I'm really a girly fairy tale monster!
But I do hope D's style won't change so much. I'd rather have them dress in pastel jumpsuits than play pastel music.

*dies from sudden mental image of Asagi in a pink jumpsuit*

Ah, I was not stepping on anybodies toes. Everyone should state their opinion because that is creates variety. Simply stating my admiration for the PV because many people seem to dislike it. Just an equal balance to even out the pros and cons.

I think both the song and pv are pretty, i like that they used piano in the song, but the song bores me really._. It also isn't what i had expected, so i was rather disappointed.
And like you say, too much asagi in the pv.

As I have stated in LiveJournal;

l I think the fact that D makes different types of music is an admirable quality in them and makes them completely unique and distinct type of sound. To have an opinion is fine, but what I have been witnessing not only on the Youtube comments, but everywhere this song or video is mentioned of the utter ignorance towards the hard work these men have put into composing this individual piece of music...this so called "not D" ballad. I adore it and just because someone else does not feel the same way, they do not have to demean D's beautiful accomplishments.

Oh and before anyone starts to get offended by the fact that I said the word ignorant..
I did not say there was anything wrong with having an opinion, ignorance is where the good that D has produced is not outweighing the supposed "boredom" this song is providing for many people. That is all.

Cons are natural, but D deserves Pros as well if one is to say something negative about their work.

^agree with that too.

Last night, I listened to the song again, and I felt it somehow differently. It's rather annoying when your opinion changes on a song so much D: But that listen made me appreciate it a lot more for some reason, and you know...
We're all D fans, so ever had that....odd feeling of fullness when you listen to their songs? Well, I got that feeling for this song too, and I've felt proud to be a fan of them once more.

The first time I watched the Snow White PV I was startled. It was nothing like anything D had released before. I firstly thought "Disney!" but by the end of the PV I was humming the melody and I had to watch and listen again. The second time I was captivated and before I knew it I was in love with this PV and, more than anything else, the song.

I found it to be incredibly beautiful, another side of D I'm happy to see.
